Vancouver FIR Mountain Madness
Rules
Flight plans
- Pilots are requested to fly preferred routing available from http://www.simroutes.com
- Pilots are encouraged to have all charts on board for the airports they are flying. Click here for charts.
- DO NOT REFILE YOUR FLIGHTPLAN AT ANY TIME DURING YOUR FLIGHT. If pilots do refile there flightplan they will forfeit their points from that leg.
- Pilots will only receive points for IFR or controlled VFR flights. Pilots will not recieve points for flying VFR Circuits.
- Pilots are STRONGLY encouraged to use voice. In every event when the traffic increases people that are on text always seem to be get low priority. It does take a lot of time to issue commands and clearances via typing as opposed to voice.
Obtaining Points
- Pilots will be rewarded with 10 points for every 1 minute of flight time within the Vancouver FIR or when landing or departing Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Ft St. John, Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Boeing Field, Bellingham (termed accredited airports from hereon in)
- All flights to/from airports outside the Vancouver FIR other than those mentioned in rule #1 will only receive points for actual flight time to a maximum of 2 hrs.
- Pilots will be rewarded with 250 points for every landing and departure within the Vancouver FIR, and our accredited airports. Note: At least one of the departure or arrival airports must reside within the Vancouver FIR to receive full points..
Example:
KSEA to CYVR = Full points
CYVR to KSEA = Full points
CYVR to KLWS = Reduced Points & points for actual flight time to a maximum of 2 hrs
KLWS to CYYJ = Reduced Points & points for actual flight time to a maximum of 2 hrs
KLWS to KSEA = No Points
Wagering Points
- If you do not wish to wager points then keep flying and you do not need to contact the event director.
- If you wish to wager your points
- Upon landing at an airport, contact the event Director (CZVR_D_CTR) on frequency 132.500
- At this point the pilot will have an opportunity to increase his/her points (or possible lose!) by wagering them with the director.
- Upon tuning the event director, wait until the frequency is free, state your callsign. The director will either tell you to go ahead or give you a number to wait in line. When the director calls your callsign; confirm your callsign and give the director your VATSIM PID (pilot Id). The director will then state your points available to wager, then say the points you wish to wager.
- Then the director will ask a random real world or virtual aviation question. If you answer correctly between a given tolerance and within 15 sec. You will be credited an amount equal to the points wagered. If you answer incorrectly or time expires, you will lose equal to the points wagered
- Every 30 minutes during the event the Event Director will pick an airport name out of the hat from within the Vancouver FIR. Every pilot within 10nm of that airport will receive 200 points. Airports that attract less traffic within the Vancouver FIR will have a better chance at being pulled out of the hat. Vancouver Intl (CYVR) will not be eligible for this bonus.
Fly In Director
- The Fly-In Director will be online as CZVR_D_CTR on frequency 132.500, or in the situation we need 2 directors when it gets busy we will let you know the frequency of the standby director. The Standby Director will be logged on as CZVR_S_CTR
- 2. In the event of a disagreement with respect to points the event director has the final say. In the event of a disagreement with respect to normal flight operations during the event, a VATSIM Supervisor will be contacted and the supervisor will have the final say.
Winning Prizes
- Prizes will be awarded to the top pilots by points. The pilot with the most points will get first choice at prizes and then the other winners will then get to chose there prize respectively of there position.
- 2 Prizes will also be given off to the top 2 pilots who got the most trivia questions correct
- 2 prizes will be given off as participation prizes. All pilots who participated in the event are eligible for the participation prize.
- 3 prizes will be raffled off to 3 pilots who participated and belong to the Virtual Airline with the most participating pilots during the event
- One prize per participant. If a pilot wins in more than one category than they will receive one prize and the other prize will be raffled of as a participation prize.
- After the event, the list of winners will be posted on the web site. It is the responsibility of the winners to contact us using their registered vatsim e-mail address to receive their prize. After 2 weeks any unclaimed prizes will be given to the next person in line to win a prize.
- There will be a scoreboard available on the Vancouver Website which shows your current position in the flyin. It will be updated every 3 minutes so you always know what position and how many points you currently have.
- All controllers in the Vancouver FIR are disqualified from winning prizes due to conflict on interest.
At the discretion of the CZVR FIR, if any fly-in members are found to be abusing the rules we have the right to suspend that member from the fly-in and all points obtained are considered void (but of course we won‘t see any of that from anyone because we are all honest! But we do have to advise of this rule). Rules are subject to change.
