Vancouver FIR Mountain Madness
1.When is Vancouver FIR Mountain Madness
Vancouver FIR Mountain Madness is on Saturday February 10, 2007 starting at 1800 UTC and running until atleast 2300 UTC
2.In Question 1 you say running until atleast 2300 UTC, what do you mean by atleast?
We will keep counting your points and we will be controlling until atleast 2300 UTC, but if the traffic keeps coming we will be online and continue to count your points.
3.How do I win Prizes?
You can win prizes by: Obtaining the most points during the event (see rules for more details), getting the most questions correct, and many more ways (*hint* the more you fly inside the Vancouver FIR on Feb 10, the better chance you have at winning a prize)
4.How do I obtain points?
i) You will receive 250 points from taking off and as well receive 250 more points from landing at an airport within the Vancouver airspace. We have made an exception for a few airports outside the Vancouver airspace; Seattle, Portland, Calgary, Edmonton, Grand Prairie, and Ft St John. The following rule does apply when using these airports. YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE FULL POINTS WHEN DEPARTING FROM THESE AIRPORTS AND LANDING AT AN AIRPORT WITHIN THE VANCOUVER AIRSPACE. If you decide to fly TO these airports from an airport within the Vancouver airspace you will only receive points from departing a Vancouver airspace airport. You will not receive the landing points for landing outside the Vancouver airspace.
Eg: Departing Airport: Seattle Landing Airport: Kelowna Full Points
Departing Airport: Kelowna Landing Airport: Seattle Reduced Points
ii) You will receive points for time travelled. 1 minute = 10 point.
iii) When you arrive at your destination and flight plan is closed, you will be transferred to the fly-in director. At that point, your points will be totalled. The director will have a list of questions like on Jeopardy. You tell the director how many points you wish to waiger, you DO NOT have to waiger any points if you don't want to. The Fly-in director will ask you an aviation related question, if you get it right then you win the amount of points waigered, but if you got it wrong you lose the amount of points waigered.
Example Question: According to Boeing, what year was the maiden flight of the 707 prototype?
Answer: 1954.
Lets say the rules are +/- 3 years, in order to receive the points you wagered, you must answer from 1951-1957.
And just like Jeopardy, there will be the daily double!
iv) The last way to earn points is this. Every so often the director will pull a name of a qualifying airport in the Vancouver Airspace out of the hat. At that point if you are within 10 miles of this airport you will automatically receive 200 points. There will be duplicate or triplicate names in the hat for the airports that are typically less used to encourage the pilots to fly in to and out of these airports. So there may be 3 or 4 Prince Rupert names in the hat while there is only 1 Victoria in the hat. We realize that some heavy aircraft will not be able to fly into some of the smaller airports but we have taken this into account and have evened the playing field so don´t worry!
5.After the event, how do I find out if I won a prize?
We will post the list on winners on our website. It is the winners responsiblity to contact us. If the winners do not contact us within 2 weeks after the flyin their prize will be given to the next person in line
6.What are the prizes I can win?
There are over 45 prizes you can win, all from very well known payware, add-on companies. To see a complete list of sponsors click here
7.Is there a way for me to win more than one prize
No. It is limited 1 prize per person.
8.Can I fly from an airport from outside the FIR?
Yes. You can recieve points for flying out of Seattle, Portland, Boeing Field, Spokane, Grande Prairie, Calgary, and Edmonton. If you fly from any other airport from outside the FIR you will not recieve points.
9.Are some airports worth more points than others?
No, all airports within the FIR are worth the same amount of points for a landing and departure. But airports that usually attract less traffic will have a better chance at being pulled out of the hat for the 200 point bonus.
10.Is there any advantage to flying under a VA Callsign
Yes and No. You will recieve the same quality of service if you fly under a VA callsign or if you fly under a registration callsign. BUT the pilots belonging to the VA with the most pilots present during the event will have their names entered in a draw for a chance to win one of three prizes donated by our sponsors.
11.What Airports in the Vancouver FIR can I recieve points for flying into
ALL OF THEM! Any airport in the FIR you will recieve points for and we will have ATC online for.
12.What if I'm not sure which Controller to contact for my clearance?
